ICA SUNDERLAND CELEBRATED SPORTS DAY AND ONAM ON 5th SEPT

ICA Sunderland celebrated its Onam festival on the 5th sept at deptfort and millfield community centre. This was the 5th Onam carnival celebrated by this group, which began with sports day, which was conducted on August 15th in remembrance of India’s Independence and ended on the eve of Onam with traditional sports.
As a part of community team building the association organised a cricket match with st. Joseph church parish members, which was won by the Indian team. This cricket match too is organised every year relating to Onam celebration of the association. The sports day ended with tug of war, cards play and carom board match.
Onam function started at 11am on the 5th Sept and was attended by over 200 people from different parts of India and also there were guests from the English community too. The program began with a prayer song, various children’s cultural programmes were complimented with a wonderful Bale organised by the seniors of the association. The fun filled day ended with a 24 course traditional sadya which included two payasams and the introduction of a desert Mysore boli was done for the first time in a sadya.
