Changes to the Requirements for International English Language Testing (IELTS) for nurses or midwives applying to join the NMC Register who trained outside of the EU.
This change in policy will come into effect on the 1 February 2007
From 1st February 2007, all applicants to the nurses or midwives parts of the register must complete and provide evidence of the British Council International English Language Test (IELTS) before submitting their application to the NMC.
You must complete the academic version of the IELTS test and achieve:
- At least 7.0 in the listening and reading sections
- At least 7.0 in the writing and speaking sections
- An overall average score of 7 (out of a possible 9)
We will not accept applicants who score lower than this standard.
Nurse Applicants until 1 February 2007
The International English Language Test (IELTS) is already compulsory for nurse applicants and must be taken before you apply for registration with us.
You must complete the academic version of the IELTS test and achieve:
- At least 5.5 in the listening and reading sections
- 2. At least 6 in the writing and speaking sections
- 3. An overall average score of 6.5 (out of a possible 9)
